A few months ago two of my friends from business school, Jake and David (and a developer friend of theirs Andy), launched an iPhone app called Bump. In a nutshell, the app lets you exchange contact info (and now pictures) by simply bumping your phones together. Here’s a video they made when the app first debuted:
And here is a link to the most recent video to feature them. Yes, my friends. That is a link to apple.com. Because Bump has now made it into one of Apple’s famed “There’s An App For That” commercials.
Not that this has been terribly surprising. A brief rundown of Bump’s successes so far:
- Launch sometime in late March
- Crapload of glowing press (blogs, TV, newspapers) in the weeks following
- App Store’s Billionth download
- Acceptance/seed funding from Y Combinator
- Winning the New Venture Challenge, our school’s business plan competition
- Formally establishing themselves as a company and moving into offices in Silicon Valley
And now having their app featured in front of thousands, if not millions, of television viewers!
This is nothing short of what I expected from these guys, but I still can’t get over my excitement for this latest piece of news and can’t wait till I actually come across the ad on TV. Hope you come across it too, and if you have an iPhone, download the app (still free!) and tell your friends.
Congrats Bump!
