I’ve been sitting on some big news for a few months now. For a while, I wasn’t ready to go internet-public, given that I don’t really know who is lurking around here these days. Most of you who I know personally know the news by now anyway, but it was recently brought to my attention that some of you still may not. So here goes…
Internet, I am leaving New York.
In about a month or so, I’ll be selling off the last of my furniture, packing up a couple of suitcases, hopping on a flight to Chicago, and never coming back (except to visit). My time here as a resident is done.
I made a decision a while ago to make some changes in my life, both in my career and in my geographical setting (Yes, that’s a weird phrase. There’s no poetic way of saying I wanted to get out of NYC.) Anyway, point is, this September I’m acting on that decision by joining the full-time MBA program at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Yay for me.
There’s still a lot of unanswered questions about what I will do over the next two years. What exactly I’ll be studying and what direction I’ll actually take my career. Kate thinks I’ll lose my originality/creativity. I know I’ll be in a lot of debt. Everything else is TBD, but hopefully I’ll come out of the program a more enlightened human being, working in a career I am more passionate about.
I’ve got just about 30 days left in the city. So if you’re a cute girl who’s always wanted to buy me a burrito (I’m hoping this even exists), a random guy who’s wanted to buy me a beer (I’m saving for school by drinking any free booze I can get), or a close friend who wants to cook me a going away dinner (I’m taking reservations; so far I’ve locked down 2), please get in touch.
And if you’re one of my many Chicago readers who’ve been begging me to switch cities, your wish has finally come true. I’ll be out there in 30 days, so if you’re a cute girl who wants to buy me a burrito, a random guy who wants to buy me a beer, or a close friend who wants to cook me dinner, please get in touch.

Now that you’re going to school in Hyde Park, will you change the blog name to ‘Amish in the Ghetto?’
I kid, I kid.

Chicago is sweet. You’ll love it. Less angry, more midwestern. I’ll be there this weekend!

My friend told me about your blog because I’ll be starting full-time at GSB too. Hopefully I’ll meet you soon! Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions about Chicago.

i left nyc a month ago, to come back to rep theater in the wilds of utah.
i lost the mta, 8 million of my best friends, museums, all that is new york that made my heart beat faster.
i gained two amazing rep theaters, crystal clear skies, night stars, la is an hour away by air, 14 stop lights, 2 years of food should i choose to convert, sheer mountain ranges, vegas is 90 minutes away by car, and i find more peace in writing and i learned to can. enjoy. safe journey.

Will the blog now be called “Amish in Chi Town?”

Aw man. I was SO looking forward to more creativity with that panoramic apartment view.
Was imaginging things like a nude model, glistening with some liquid, reflecting the glow of the brilliant twilight skyline off her side, in turn reflecting off the window, causing a most interesting ghost image of the city against itself, in her shape. It could be brilliant and kid-safe, and then you go move to Mrs. O’leary’s fire trap.
Dammit.

Will you be taking a summer road trip in Europe before you start college?

A new name for the blog has not been decided. Your suggestions are noted (but likely rejected).

I do not fear rejection, but you really don’t have to change the name … unless you want to make it “Amish in the [Windy] City” … or … “Amish in the City that is Not as Cool as New York”
